1. Agreement
By using this website or completing a booking, you agree to these Terms and Conditions, our Booking and Refund Policy, Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy.
2. Our service
Karura Bikes, also called Karura Bikes Rentals, is an online booking platform for bike hire inside Karura Forest, on the designated places in the forest. We do not own the bikes. A partner who has bikes, and whom we agree to enroll, provides the bicycle. You may still hire a bike from someone at the forest without using this platform.
We are not associated with Kenya Forest Service, Kenya Wildlife Service, or any government body. We are not a licensing body, and we are not an official community of Karura Forest. Forest entrance is paid at the gate. It is not sold on the booking form. The fuller account is on About Karura Bikes.
3. Guest responsibilities
- Provide accurate rider counts (male, female, child), date, time and a reachable phone number.
- Arrive on time at the agreed Karura Forest gate with identification where required for forest entry.
- Follow trail and bike-assignment instructions.
- Pay Kenya Forest Service entrance through the official gate process. Hire bookings do not include forest entrance.
- Supervise children on paths and around bikes.
4. Trails and forest conditions
Descriptions of trails and gates describe the usual route. They are not a promise that the forest will be the same on every date. Paths may close or change after rain, maintenance, or an instruction from Kenya Forest Service or Kenya Wildlife Service. If the booked bike cannot be supplied for that reason, the refund rules in the Booking and Refund Policy apply.
5. Payments
Online payments are processed by our payment provider. Card data is handled by that provider. The hire amount shown before checkout is the amount you authorise. We do not add a transaction charge on top of that price. See also our Payment Policy.
6. Cancellations and refunds
Cancellation windows, weather rescheduling and refund eligibility are set out in the Booking and Refund Policy. Those rules form part of these terms.
7. Limitation of liability
Our duty is the booking: a bike on the date you booked, of the type you booked, at the price shown. The partner operates the bike. A fault in the bicycle, or a dispute about how the partner handed it over, sits with that partner. We are not licensed to certify that a bike is good. We choose partners to the best of our knowledge.
Bike hire on forest trails involves uneven ground, other path users and changing weather. To the fullest extent permitted by Kenyan law, we are not liable for loss of personal property, injury from failing to follow instructions, a forest closure, weather, a direction from Kenya Forest Service or Kenya Wildlife Service beyond the refund in the Booking and Refund Policy, or consequential losses such as a missed appointment.
Late return, damage during the hire, and loss of a hired bike are summarised on the Karura Forest bike hire rules page and in your confirmation. Those points sit with you and the partner who supplied the bike.
Our total liability related to a booking is limited to the amount you paid to us for that booking, except where Kenyan law requires otherwise.
8. Website use
You may not misuse the site, attempt unauthorised access, submit abusive content, or use automated tools that harm service availability. Content on this site is for booking and information purposes and may be updated without prior notice.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Kenya. Disputes will first be addressed through direct contact with our team. If unresolved, Kenyan courts have jurisdiction.
